Supported Devices

The DUST Go mobile app captures DUST markings two ways, and which one you use depends on the device. On iPhone, the Loupe magnifies the marking for the phone’s own camera. On Android, DUST Go drives a Dragon connected over USB. QR, barcode, Data Matrix, and NFC scanning need neither — they work with the device hardware alone.

The Loupe

The Loupe mounts over the phone's rear camera. It attaches through a compatible MagSafe case, so both the phone model and the case matter.

The Loupe is an optical accessory, not a camera: it magnifies the DUST marking for the phone’s own camera to photograph. A phone without it can still read QR, barcode, Data Matrix, and NFC Identifiers, but it cannot capture DUST.

The Dragon on Android

On Android, DUST Go captures DUST through a Dragon connected to the phone over USB. QR, barcode, Data Matrix, and NFC Identifiers still use the device’s own camera and NFC reader, exactly as they do on iPhone.

On Android the Dragon connects over USB and does the capture itself.

The Dragon is a scanner in its own right, with its own optics — so unlike the Loupe, it takes the capture instead of magnifying for the phone’s camera. That means DUST capture on Android does not depend on the phone model or its case the way the Loupe does, and the iPhone matrix above does not apply to it. Allow the USB connection when Android prompts for it.

Baseline expectations

  • Current iPhone or Android hardware supported by the DUST Go release you are deploying.
  • DUST scanning hardware for DUST capture: a Loupe on iPhone, or a Dragon on Android.
  • Network access to AuthD and APID (see Environments for hostnames).
  • Camera permissions enabled for the app.

Other scan types

QR, barcode, Data Matrix, and NFC scanning in DUST Go use the phone’s built-in camera and NFC reader — no DUST hardware is required for those Identifier types, on either platform. The iPhone matrix above applies only to DUST capture with the Loupe.

Validation

Validate the full workflow on the exact device, accessory, lighting, and object surfaces used in production. DUST scan quality depends on the physical setup, not only the API integration.

When testing a web integration, serve your app over HTTPS on a URL the device can reach (a LAN address works for development) and add it as a custom app link in DUST Go — see Test your integration.
